Before You Move

• Research your mover’s USDOT number and verify licensing on FMCSA’s database.
• Ask for a written estimate and understand if it’s binding or non-binding.
• Review the mover’s tariff, Bill of Lading, and valuation options.
• Confirm insurance coverage and request a Certificate of Insurance (COI) if needed by your building.
• Know the mover’s cancellation, refund, and claims policies.

Moving Day

• Make sure the mover’s company name, logo, and USDOT number match your paperwork.
• Be present during loading and unloading.
• Verify inventory lists and condition notes before signing.
• Keep important items, valuables, and documents with you personally.

After Delivery

• Inspect your items immediately and note any exceptions on the delivery receipt.
• File claims in writing within 9 months if anything is lost or damaged.
• Keep copies of all documents — Bill of Lading, estimate, and payment receipts.
